Taking into account our community’s current economy and to entirely focus our efforts on our annual community legacy event, the Fort Nelson Hospital & Healthcare Foundation Charity Bed Races, we have opted to defer the Annual Horn River Basin Charity Hockey Tournament indefinitely.
The Horn River Basin Charity Hockey Tournament was an annual event that was started from an idea that came from Bill Gourley of Nexen, Barney Streeper of Hardcastle Developments and Wayne Andrews from Imperial Oil. It was their vision that the Fort Nelson Hospital & Healthcare Foundation could host a fun charity hockey tournament to raise funds for the Fort Nelson General Hospital.
That we did, the first year this tournament was hosted was 2011 and we raised over $83,000.00 for the Fort Nelson Hospital & Healthcare Foundation Equipment Fund. Of which the Foundation purchased new electric beds for the Hospital. For 2012 and 2013 each year was very successful and continuing to support the projects and equipment requests that the Foundation are given e.g. ChromaLUME Turbo Light Source, Panda Infant Warmer, Thin X Radiation device.
Unfortunately this event stopped in 2016 as the Horn River companies had largely left the area and the economy had taken a turn for the worse.
